**The Opportunity for Ergo:**

Ergo Onramper & Banxa Integration: Fiat Access & Off-Ramps

It is undeniable that the Ergo Platform continues to outpace most of the blockchain industry in developer activity. Since its inception, Ergo’s Rosen Bridge has successfully bridged assets between Ergo, Cardano, Bitcoin, and Ethereum via its secure system of decentralized guards and watchers. As of today, Rosen Bridge now supports the bridging of assets to Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

The addition of Binance Smart Chain opens the door for the immediate flow of Ergo and Cardano assets into BSC and its large market of DEXs. In other words, it is now possible to list an asset such as rsERG on BSC DEXs. In fact, compatible assets from all of the blockchains that are bridged on Rosen Bridge can be used cross-chain to form new liquidity pools on the respective blockchains.

It will come as no surprise that much of the Ergo community has felt that the industry’s major centralized exchanges have been reticent in their willingness to list $ERG on their platforms. Many have cited that Ergo is a unique Layer 1 blockchain, and as such, it would require significant developer resources to integrate it into a CEX. The Ergo developer team has repeatedly offered to assist with such integrations for free, but they have yet to be taken up on that offer.

Rosen Bridge was built to allow for greater interoperability between blockchains and the free flow of money for all bridged assets. With Rosen Bridge, there is no need for CEXs as Ergo can exist on any of the bridged chains and any liquidity pairing can be created for the immediate trading of rsERG on these blockchains. Ergo is no longer at the mercy of having to try and negotiate listing fees or ask for a CEX to consider listing the $ERG coin. Anyone who uses crypto can now easily access any of the tokens on these blockchains without the need for an intermediary. Subsequently, anyone who has not had access to $ERG and its native assets because of CEXs can now acquire these tokens and interact with the incredible products that are being designed on Ergo.

Ergo has always been about decentralization and limiting control by singular/centralized entities. It is about empowering people to take control of their money and having fair access to DeFi services, such as decentralized lending and borrowing protocols. Rosen Bridge has just rewritten the script on bridge security, and it has significantly reshaped the way people can interact with all of the bridged blockchains. ## Interacting with Rosen Bridge

2. You will then need to select your **Source** and **Target** blockchains. To select your Source blockchain (the chain you wish to move assets off of), just click on the drop menu and choose from Ergo, Cardano, Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Binance Smart Chain. Similarly, you can select your Target blockchain (the chain you want to move your assets to) via the drop menu. 

3. Once you have selected the Source and Target blockchains, you will need to connect your wallet.

_Please note that you will need to have created wallets on both the Source and Target blockchains before you attempt your transaction._

In the example above, we are using Cardano as our Source blockchain, and after connecting our wallet to the Rosen Bridge, the dApp will be able to read which assets are available for bridging.

4. In order to move the desired assets to Binance Smart Chain, you will need to have your BSC wallet address ready for input in the **Target Address** box on the website. 

5. Select the **Token**, or asset, that you wish to move to BSC in the corresponding field on the dApp’s website.

6. Choose the number of tokens you want to send. 

Once you have completed these steps, you can bridge the desired assets to your Binance Smart Chain wallet. It is important to note that the transaction is not immediate. Rosen Bridge is specifically designed for utmost security. It is an intentional design choice to have bridge transactions carefully vetted and verified via the system of guards and watchers. Instant bridge transactions would be nice, but as history has shown, weak bridges have been prone to attacks and lost funds. Rosen Bridge is built to be secure and it significantly reduces attack vectors through its decentralized design - ensuring that funds are safe and arrive at their target destination.

As the industry has grown, the need for secure interoperable blockchain infrastructure has become increasingly important. In order for the DeFi sector to truly flourish, decentralization and open source tooling must be the priority. With the launch of Rosen Bridge, we establish a new standard in bridge security with clear open assumptions - _one that has the potential to revolutionize the industry and establish Ergo as a hub for the intersection of multiple blockchains._

Crypto bridges enable cross-chain swaps for the native assets of differing blockchains. Imagine Cardano and/or Ethereum assets on the Ergo Platform. Similarly, one could move Ergo assets from the Ergo blockchain to those networks. This kind of cross-chain interoperability opens the door for multiple blockchains to function in tandem, rather than operate as insulated ecosystems. Additionally, it presents an opportunity for dApp developers to exploit the strengths of multiple blockchain networks to maximize the potential of their product.

Over the last several years, there have been various bridges that offered users the chance to swap differing blockchain assets, but in many of these instances there were serious flaws that led to hacks and stolen funds. So, what makes Rosen Bridge different from previous bridges? 

Built on the time tested and robust security of Ergo’s proof of work protocol, Rosen Bridge’s Ergo-centric logic reduces the attack vector of the bridge because none of the security features are performed on other blockchains. This model offers a new level of security assumption not yet seen in the industry. Previous bridge technology on other blockchains has required that the interacting blockchains execute smart contracts on their respective networks - a scenario that can create multiple attack vectors.

Rosen Bridge is a 2nd layer authentication bridge, meaning that there are two layers of security: watchers and guards. The bridge operates with a two-layer system for added security and efficiency. The first layer consists of Watchers who monitor blockchain networks and report events. Once they reach consensus on an event, they inform the second layer. Here, Guards verify the reported event and execute the necessary transactions for Ergo or ChainX. While Watchers are active in monitoring and consensus building, Guards focus solely on verification and transaction signing. This structure allows scalability without overburdening the Guards. The members of both Watchers and Guards can change over time, enhancing the bridge's security and functionality.

Bridges for Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Bitcoin, and Dogecoin are all planned for the near future, with a design that will permit cross-chain swaps between all of these parties. In other words, Rosen Bridge will allow bridging directly between Ethereum and Cardano, Binance Smart Chain and Dogecoin, Cardano and Bitcoin, etc.

Valued at $1.6m at the time of writing, this generous gift constitutes 3% of the total SPF supply. Additionally, a similar percentage of Rosen Bridge (RSN)’s total token supply is also expected to be allocated to the EF. This fresh injection of funding will further bolster the Foundation's capacity to promote continued innovation and growth within the Ergo ecosystem.
With an understanding of the delicate balance required to maintain market stability, the Ergo Foundation has committed to a methodical and paced strategic deployment of these assets.

The [developers](https://github.com/rosen-bridge) of Rosen Bridge have indicated that “Adding new chains is as easy as creating a wallet for the Guards, creating the Watchers, and setting some configurations.”

Rosen Bridge is designed to be a decentralized and secure bridge to which other blockchains can easily connect. It unlocks a great deal of potential growth with the possibility for new cross-chain use cases and liquidity in the Ergo ecosystem. Users will be able to wrap ADA from Cardano and bridge it to Ergo to swap for ERG. It’s important to note that centralized exchanges (CEXs) can be highly regulated with several prominent CEXs recently shutting their doors to users from certain jurisdictions (eg; [Coinex](https://cryptoslate.com/coinex-to-stop-serving-all-u-s-customers/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CDue%20to%20regulatory%20requirements%2C%20we,relevant%20accounts%E2%80%9D%20after%20that%20time.)). Rosen Bridge will offer an important alternative for obtaining ERG in a decentralized way.

The launch of Rosen Bridge presents a significant achievement for bridge technology in the crypto industry. It has the potential to securely connect Ergo with other blockchains and simplify the process for sending and receiving coins/tokens. It also offers an alternative method for obtaining $ERG. With interoperability becoming a significant part of the future of cryptocurrency, it will be interesting to see which blockchain ecosystems connect to Ergo - and what new collaborations may take place as a result in the future.

Extensive development on Ergo continues as Rosen Bridge has begun testing on mainnet, opening up cross-chain interoperability between Ergo and Cardano.

Rosen Bridge Goes Live on Mainnet


When the Ergo Platform was in its earliest days, our friends at Emurgo were some of Ergo’s first supporters. In addition to their work for the Cardano blockchain, they built and maintained the Ergo Yoroi Wallet - the first browser extension wallet for the Ergo community.

The Ergo Yoroi Wallet was instrumental in helping the Ergo Platform get off the ground and attract people to the blockchain. Without this browser extension wallet, interacting with the Ergo blockchain would have required the technical skills of operating a full node. Thankfully the Ergo Yoroi Wallet allowed people with basic technical skills the ability to store their ERG and interact with the blockchain’s earliest dApps. 

Three years later, the Ergo Platform now offers numerous wallet options for Ergonauts. Several of these were actually designed and built by participants of Ergo’s hackathon series: ErgoHACK. ErgoHACK wallets include [Nautilus Wallet](https://github.com/capt-nemo429/nautilus-wallet), [Satergo](https://satergo.com/), [Minotaur](https://github.com/minotaur-ergo/minotaur-wallet) and [SAFEW](https://github.com/ThierryM1212/SAFEW). In addition to these community developed wallets, Ergonauts can also choose to use an [Ergo Node](https://docs.ergoplatform.com/node/install/), [Paper Wallet](https://ergopaperwallet.org/), [Ergo Wallet App](https://ergoplatform.org/en/ergo-wallet-app/) and [Zelcore Wallet](https://zelcore.io/) to store their assets. With several wallets that are dedicated solely to the Ergo Platform, Emurgo has recently decided [to discontinue support for the Ergo Yoroi Wallet](https://twitter.com/YoroiWallet/status/1611402722829340672?s=20&t=P2MDoJDJ2VfHUckgMKnz4A). This means that Ergonauts who currently use the Yoroi wallet will need to install one of the Ergo wallets mentioned above. Once one of the Ergo wallets is installed, you will need the seed phrase that you received when you initially created your Ergo Yoroi Wallet. That seed phrase can then be used to migrate/import your assets into the new wallet interface. 

If for some reason you have misplaced the seed phrase for your Yoroi wallet (it is recommended that you always write down and store seed phrases securely), but still have access to the funds in the account via your password, it is recommended that you create a new Ergo wallet immediately. Once that new wallet has been created, send any and all funds from the Ergo Yoroi Wallet to your new wallet.

Yoroi to End Support for Ergo Wallet


Decentralization, transparency and security are three prominent features of Ergo’s ethos. With the news of several bridge exploits over this last year, one of Ergo’s developers has set out to build a bridge with a focus on being secure. Ergo is also laying the groundwork for something that would be considered revolutionary in the cryptocurrency space: light SPV clients enabled via NiPoPoWs (Non-Interactive Proof of Proof of Work). Let’s take a closer look at these two very important features on Ergo.

## Rosen Bridge

Joseph Armenio, the business manager of Ergo, [stated](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsiy-yPJQ6w&ab_channel=ErgoPlatform) (00:10-00:39) that: “The Rosen Bridge is a trustless Ergo-centric second layer authentication bridge. The Rosen bridge is not intended to be fast, but to be extremely secure.” This is vital in the financial world. Ergo’s primary use case will be for contractual money, and security needs to come first if Ergo is to enjoy mass adoption. 

The main [use case of the Rosen Bridge](https://github.com/rosen-bridge) is _“to send and receive coins and tokens between Ergo and any other blockchain. There is no need to utilize smart contracts on the other chains since the consensus on any action can be done on Ergo.”_ 

This is revolutionary because utilizing Ergo’s security features will better prevent exploits and bad actor attacks. By only utilizing smart contracts on Ergo, the Rosen Bridge prevents possible attack vectors from other chains. With the Ronin and Harmony attacks this last year, it is imperative that security is a priority for cross chain bridges. 

The Rosen Bridge has recently gone live via soft launch on testnet, and it is being thoroughly tested to ensure that the functionality of the bridge is working as intended. Currently, testing has enabled the ability to send coins and tokens between Ergo and Cardano. It is expected that the Rosen Bridge will soon launch on mainnet with more updates to be released as they become available.

## Light SPV Clients Using NiPoPoWs

Light SPV clients are a technological marvel in that they lower the barrier of entry for the ordinary person. NiPoPoW stands for Non-Interactive Proof of Proof of Work, and they solve several problems that relate to adoption and accessibility of blockchain technology. 

NiPoPoWs are essentially a compression technique that aim to reduce the size of a blockchain. NiPoPoWs will allow super light clients to sync to the blockchain with less than 1MB of data. This powerful reduction of data also reduces technological requirements, allowing more users to utilize Ergo and its technology. NiPoPoWs will enable limited hardware, such as flip phones, to operate with limited data service while achieving the same security as a full node. 

The use cases of NIPoPoWs will also enable efficient operation of side chains. This will allow new protocols to be built on top of the Ergo blockchain, which can be verified by miners without causing congestion. This technology will be the foundation of Ergo’s Layer Two scaling approach and it has the potential to completely revolutionize the industry.
